"Gordon"

May 12, 1995 - June 1, 2008

Gordon was the result of 18 years of selective breeding, combined with just some good old fashioned luck.  It is the dream of  almost everyone who shows and breeds to have a Best In Show winning dog.  We feel fortunate to have had the pleasure of breeding and owning this dog, and seeing him surpass even our wildest dreams.  Gordon was the second brown  Cocker Spaniel to have achieved an All-Breed Best In Show, with 2 of them to his credit, as well as 24 Best In Specialty Shows.  He is among the top winning  browns in breed history.

Gordon was the #1 ASCOB Cocker Spaniel in the country for 1999 All-Systems and earned the Pedigree Award.  The year 2000 started off with an exciting win for us, when Gordon was selected Best Of Variety at the American Spaniel Club Flushing Spaniel Show.  At the end of the year, Gordon was again #1 ASCOB (breed system), earning the Pedigree award two consecutive years.  And just when we thought all of our dreams had come true, in January 2001, Gordon and Joan went to American Spaniel Club one last time, and AGAIN won Best Of Variety!  After he retired from the show ring, he went on to  sire 46 champions, and among the top producing brown sire in breed history.

Gordon's story isn't complete without mentioning his talented handler Joan Stallard. Her friendship and devotion to bringing out the best in Gordon was so incredible.  My deepest appreciation  to her for so many wonderful moments, and making Gordon into my once in a lifetime dog. He is deeply missed and our kennel will never be quite the same without him.  We wish to thank the breeders who are carrying on his legacy and look forward to seeing his grandkids in the ring.

One of my favorite photos.  Gordon won the Sporting Group in the rain, soaking wet, on August 27, 2000.  Wet or dry, he still looks great!

His son Michael also won that day, Best in Sweeps, WD, BW, BV.
